Despite Deaths and Miscarriages, FDA Refuses to Investigate HPV Vaccine

ROCKVILLE, Maryland, December 10, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Rather than investigate thousands of complaints of adverse effects including reports of miscarriage in a Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine, the FDA has chosen to ignore the complaints and continue paving the way to make the drug mandatory in schools throughout the U.S.

Gardasil, a vaccine designed to prevent HPV, was approved by the FDA in June 2006 for girls as young as nine years old. Since that time, more than 3,000 adverse reactions were reported to the FDA, including eleven deaths and twenty-eight. miscarriages. The deaths were caused by blood clotting, one case in a girl who was only twelve years old.

Gardasil co-creator Ian Frazer and manufacturer CSL dismissed allegations of the deaths being associated with the drug, claiming the women died of unrelated causes.

The miscarriages were all caused soon after the administration of Gardasil, in girls and women who were not aware they were pregnant. Although the drug's packaging states there is no evidence it will cause impaired female fertility or harm the fetus.

Despite the complaints, the FDA said it is only concerned about dizziness as a side effect immediately after the administration of the drug. FDA spokeswoman Karen Riley downplayed the miscarriages, saying that girls should have taken the drug before becoming sexually active, not after.

"If you're pregnant, then it means you've been sexually active," she said. "So it would be somewhat dubious to get a vaccine you're supposed to have before you're sexually active."

Massachusetts, New Jersey, and Virginia have already made the drug mandatory in their schools in an effort to prevent HPV, a sexually transmitted disease and the leading cause of cervical cancer. Thirty-eight states are considering making the Gardasil vaccine mandatory as well.

Judicial Watch, a U.S. government watchdog organization, gathered the information on the drug's adverse effects and traced its progress through legislation. Judicial Watch also noted large donations to key politicians originating from Merck, Gardasil's developer.

"Merck lobbied for these mandates," Said Judicial Watch president Tom Fitton in an interview with Cybercast News Service . "There are moral issues here. But the primary issue is public health and safety. It's interesting why our government downplays the apparent adverse reactions of Gardasil. Why are drugs with a distinct social agenda getting less scrutiny in the approval process?"

Concerned Women for America (CWA), an organization pledged to protect and promote Biblical values among all citizens, has expressed shock that the FDA would not take the reported incidents seriously.

"It's interesting so many drugs have taken so long to process and these are approved almost immediately," said a spokeswoman for CWA. "The refusal to investigate is a disservice to women around the world."

Dear friends, family, acquaintances, and co-workers,

I have put off composing this email for quite some time. Quite frankly, I know I can politically overbearing at times and I know some of you may be sick of the barrage of emails I send out on a daily basis. I also know I've made some major political mistakes in the past and those of you that know how I voted 2004 can attest to that. I've been duped before and in all likelihood I'll be duped again.

That being said. Most of you know me. You've are/have been my family, my best friends, my band mates, my drinking buddies, my co-workers (who almost always end up being my good friends), and like minded patriots who love this country and what it has stood for. You know that I can be an asshole. You know that I can be stubbornly dead wrong. You know that I can be too quick to judge a situation. You also know that I am a family man. You know that I love my family and friends more than anything in the world. You know that if it came down do it I would jump in front of a bullet for your children. You know I can be ridiculously over the top silly at at times. You also know that I am not dumb nor am I naive.

There are things going on in this country that I would not believe had I not been willing to see things for what they are and not the skewed picture the corporate media paints for us. I believe there are things going on in this country that I previously would have thought someone insane for believing. Our civil liberties are being stripped from us in the name of fighting terrorist boogey men while we pacify ourselves with reality shows and football games. More people know who is going to the Super Bowl than know who is running for president. More people know what time Deal or No Deal is on that when the next election is. More people know who was signed to the Red Sox than the fact that our president signed H.R.5122 in October of this year which effectively allows the president to declare martial law at the drop of a hat in order to suppress public disorder and I'm sure any Katrina victim can tell you how well things go when the police take over. (Not to mention the president can pretty much do whatever he wants.) Believe me when I tell you, the wheels are already in motion that will make anyone who disagrees with government policy a terrorist. Simply Google "domestic terror."

My friends and family, I believe these our dire times. I believe things are much worse that we see at face value. I also believe time is running out to save any semblance of what America was for our children. I'm not going to tell you who to vote for (although I think most of you know who I'm voting for.) and I'm not going to tell you that have to believe one thing or another. Who would I be to do that? What I will ask of you. What I will beg of you is that you expose yourselves to the information that is out there. Open your mind to ideas that you may have previously though ridiculous. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Some of if the information may be offensive to some or too impossible at first glance. I'm begging you. Take it all in, digest it, and draw your own conclusions. Maybe you will come away saying, "Wow, John is a kook." I'm willing to take that chance. Some of you already think I am. I'm ok with that too. Some of you will feel as I do. That we are in big trouble if we don't become active and bring about change immediately. I promise you, I'd hold nothing against you for disagreeing with me. I would absolutely love nothing more in the world to be wrong about this.

In 1953, the United States and Britain overthrew the parliamentary government and installed a brutal dictator, the Shah, who ruled until 1979. And during his rule, incidentally, the United States was strongly supporting the same programs they're objecting to today. In 1979, the population overthrew the dictator, and since then the United States has been essentially torturing Iran. First it tried a military coup. Then it supported Saddam Hussein during Iraq's invasion of Iran, which killed hundreds of thousands of people. Then, after that was over, the United States started imposing harsh sanctions on Iran. And now it's escalating that. The point is: Iran is out of control. You know, it's supposed to be a U.S.-client state, as it was under the Shah, and it's refusing to play that role.

America's Police Brutality Pandemic

Bush's "war on terror" quickly became Bush's war on Iraqi civilians. So far over one million Iraqi civilians have lost their lives because of Bush's invasion, and four million have been displaced. Iraq's infrastructure is in ruins. Disease is rampart. Normal life has disappeared.

Self-righteous Americans justify these monstrous crimes as necessary to ensure their own safety from terrorist attack. Yet, Americans are in far greater danger from their own police forces than they are from foreign terrorists. Ironically, Bush's "war on terror" has made Americans less safe at home by diminishing US civil liberty and turning an epidemic of US police brutality into a pandemic.

The only terrorist most Americans will ever encounter is a policeman with a badge, nightstick, mace and Taser. A Google search for "police brutality videos" turns up 2,210,000 entries. Some entries are foreign and some are probably duplications, but the number is so large that a person could do nothing but watch police brutality videos for the rest of his life. A search on "You Tube" alone turned up 2,280 police brutality videos. PrisonPlanet has a selection of the most outrageous recent cases.

Police brutality has crossed the line from using excessive force against a resisting Rodney King to unprovoked gratuitous violence against persons offering no resistance, such as the elderly, women, students, and elected officials. Americans are not safe anywhere from police. Police attack Americans in university libraries, in public meetings, and in their own homes.

Last week we had the case of the University of Florida student who was repeatedly Tasered without cause for asking Senator Kerry some good questions in the question and answer period following Kerry's speech. Two days after the Florida student was gratuitously brutalized, Senate Republicans defeated Vermont Democrat Patrick Leahy's bill to restore habeas corpus protection.

A UCLA student was Tasered by police without cause for studying in the university library without having his student ID on his person. Following police orders to leave, the student was walking toward the door when police grabbed him and repeatedly Tasered him.

On September 19, 2007 a young woman was repeatedly Tasered without cause by a large brutal cop in a parking lot outside a night club in Warren Ohio.

On September 14, 2007, Roseland, Indiana, city council member David Snyder was ejected from a council meeting by dictatorial council chairman Charlie Shields. Snyder had protested being limited to one minute to speak. Police goon Jack Tiller escorted Snyder out, and as Snyder exited the building, Tiller, following behind, pushed Snyder to the ground and without cause began beating Snyder in the head with a nightstick. Snyder was hospitalized.

Local TV news stations throughout the US offer an endless stream of police brutality videos, which are then posted on the stations' web sites, often with an opportunity for citizens to express their opinion of the incidents.

There are many disturbing aspects to police brutality cases.

One disturbing aspect is that the police always arrest the people that they have gratuitously brutalized. There was no justification whatsoever to arrest councilman Snyder, or the UCLA student, or the University of Florida student. The cops committed assault against innocent citizens. The cops should have been arrested for their criminal acts. Instead, the cops cover up their own crimes by arresting their victims on false charges that are invented to justify the unprovoked police violence against citizens.

Twins Tasered after alleged assault on police | NEWS.com.au

TWIN brothers were Tasered by police after allegedly bashing three officers who were later treated in hospital.
WA Police said one of the men had called officers to a house in Midland, in Perth’s north-east, in the early hours of Sunday morning to deal with a domestic dispute.

Police said the officers were leaving the premises after the dispute had been "resolved" when the 23-year-old man’s twin turned up and allegedly threatened them.

When one of the brothers was arrested, police allege, the other punched an officer in the face three times.

The second brother then allegedly punched another officer in the head while a third officer - who ran in to help her colleague - was allegedly kicked twice in the head.

Police used Tasers to subdue them men, who were placed under arrest.

The three officers were taken to hospital and have been since been released.

A 23-year-old Midland man was later charged with obstructing a public officer and assaulting a public officer.

His twin, from nearby Koongamia, was charged with disorderly behaviour in public, three counts of assaulting a public officer and obstructing a public officer

They are expected to appear before Midland Magistrate's Court on December 7.

Stun Gun Used on Pregnant Woman in Ohio

TROTWOOD, Ohio (AP) - A policeman forced a pregnant woman to the ground and used a stun gun on her when she refused to answer the officer's questions and resisted being handcuffed, authorities said Thursday.

The woman went to the police department in this Dayton suburb on Nov. 18 to ask officers to take custody of her 1-year-old son, said Michael Etter, Trotwood's public safety director.

The woman told the officer she was "tired of playing games" with the baby's father, Etter said. The woman refused to answer questions, became frustrated and tried to leave with the child, Etter said. The officer feared allowing her to leave could jeopardize the child and he decided to detain her to get more information.

He said the officer grabbed the woman, got the child away from her and forced her to the ground. When she resisted being handcuffed and tried to get away, the officer used the stun gun on her, Etter said.

The woman wore a winter coat and did not tell the officer she was pregnant, Etter said. "She was totally uncooperative," he said.

The woman was arrested for obstruction and resisting arrest and transported to jail, Etter said. When she arrived at the jail, it was discovered that she was pregnant, and an officer took her to the hospital, he said. The condition of the woman and the fetus was not known.

The FBI is investigating the arrest and Etter said the police department is conducting its own probe to determine whether excessive force was used.

He said the officer remains on duty.

This week, the Supreme Court let stand a disturbing ruling out of California that allows law enforcement to barge into people's homes without a warrant. The case has not prompted much outrage, perhaps because the people whose privacy is being invaded are welfare recipients, but it is a serious setback for privacy rights.

San Diego County's district attorney has a program called Project 100 Percent that is intended to reduce welfare fraud. Applicants for welfare benefits are visited by law enforcement agents, who show up unannounced and examine the family's home - including the insides of cabinets and closets. Applicants who refuse to let the agents in are generally denied benefits.

Few young Americans understand that the Second Amendment keeps their homes safe from the kind of government intrusion that other citizens suffer around the world; few realize that "due process" means that they can't be locked up in a dungeon by the state and left to languish indefinitely.

"If you sign a citation, it's not admitting guilt by any means. It just says you'll promise to appear in court," he said. "If someone refuses to sign the citation, they're refusing to appear in court."

At that point, the arresting officer has the option of taking the driver into custody and to a hearing before the local magistrate, Roden said.

Salt Lake civil rights attorney Brian Barnard agreed police do have the right to arrest a driver who does not sign a speeding ticket.

Refusing to sign a ticket is not a crime under Utah state law. Signing a citation but then failing to show up in court, however, is a class B misdemeanor.

If you think we are living in scary times, your worst fears may be confirmed by reading Naomi Wolf's newest book, The End of America: Letter of Warning to a Young Patriot. In it, Wolf proves the old axiom that history does repeat itself. Or more accurately, history occurs in patterns, and in order to understand where our country is today and where it is headed, we need to read the history books.

Wolf began by diving into the early years leading up to fascist regimes, like the ones led by Hitler and Mussolini. And the patterns that she found in those, and others all over the world, made her hair stand on end. In "The End of America," she lays out the 10 steps that dictators (or aspiring dictators) take in order to shut down an open society. "Each of those ten steps is now under way in the United States today," she writes.

If we want an open society, she warns, we must pay attention and we must fight to protect democracy.

But an attack on Iran--which appears increasingly likely before the coming presidential election--will unleash a regional conflict of catastrophic proportions.
